The Story in the Shrubs

I was out walking in the country manor, taking in the sunshine and flowers, when I noticed that some of the flowers had been dug up! I saw the gardener nearby, replanting another flowerbed.

“What happened here?” I called out. “These were in perfect order yesterday!”

“Some kind of animal must have run amok,” he replied. “Nearly half the gardens are in disarray.”

“Do you know what did this?”

“No one’s seen anything, though I’ve been getting reports that there’s something running through the shrubs over there.” He pointed off to the side. “Would you take a look for me, Keeper?” I told him I would, and he returned to his work.

Walking over to where the gardener had indicated, it didn’t take me long to zero in on the culprit. As I’ve said before, I have a special ability when it comes to sensing nearby stories. I found it climbing through the shrubs. While it had great fun digging up flowers, it found that hiding behind bushes was even more exciting because hiding plays a huge role in how this story unfolds. After extracting a promise that the story would not dig up any more flowers, I left it to its fun.

Here are some hints for this story: It’s a classic comedy, it’s a movie based on a play, and everyone has heard of the author. Now go find it!
